The Disco Bush Fuzz is a fuzz pedal from Gearmanndude, the gear demo channel run by the videographer known as Gearmandude. Unveiled in November 2017, it is his second pedal as a builder, following the Luther Drive1.
What it does
The pedal's character comes from the strong interaction between its knobs. As Delicious Audio's Paolo De Gregorio put it, "The DB has many personalities, because there is so much interaction between the knobs"1. The interplay of the Blush, Hair and Money controls creates what he described as "some great textures, from woolly, to velco, to gated", reaching what he called "almost bit crushing squelchy freakness" at the extremes1.
How it works
Inside, the circuit places a passive volume control between a first boost stage and the fuzz face part of the circuit1. That boost stage ahead of a fuzz face style section is a familiar arrangement, and it gives the Blush control its role: it acts as a bias control, and at higher settings it shapes the gated fuzz character. De Gregorio noted that "the BLUSH (bias) doesn't really do much of anything for the first half of the rotation if you have the HIPS (bottom end)" up, meaning its effect only becomes audible further up its travel1.
