The Gary Boosty is a booster pedal from Googly Eyes Pedals, a small builder whose pedals carry playful names. Pedal of the Day described it as "a booster that pays homage to one of the finest actors of our time"1. On a board it sits in the booster slot alongside other boost pedals, but its circuit reaches further than a straight clean boost: the review found "boost, overdrive and even light fuzz on tap to drive your ears crazy"1.
What it does
The internal circuitry uses a silicon transistor to pre-amplify and boost the signal1. That one stage is what gives the pedal its range. As the review put it, the pedal runs "through a range from subtle tone clean up to clean volume boost to eardrum-rupturing gnarly crunch"1. In practice that means the Gary Boosty can act as a tone shaper at low settings, a volume push for solos in the middle, and a crunchy drive character when pushed hard, overlapping territory usually covered by overdrive pedals and fuzz pedals1.
Controls
The pedal has a single knob, and that knob is the sole control1. Pedal of the Day joked that "With one knob, the Gary Boosty doesn't take a degree from MIT to figure out how to use it"1. For a player, one knob means dialing in a setting takes seconds: turn it up for more level and more grit, back it off for a cleaner, subtler push.
What reviewers said
Pedal of the Day reviewed the Gary Boosty on 31 January 2022 and came away with a broadly positive view of it as a first or only drive1. Their verdict:
"With a big range and even bigger tonal structure, this pedal is a great way to start off any board or recording setup."
