The GUP Tech Donut Douche Edition is a compact boost-overdrive pedal from the Québec builder GUP Tech, released in March 2025. It uses the same circuit as the company's regular Donut, which the maker says is based on the Hot Cake, and it covers a range the maker describes as "Going from clean boost to solid OD sound." The Douche edition's difference is the enclosure: as GUP Tech puts it, "Same circuit, same boost-overdrive tone, but with a sparkling enclosure."1

Controls and what they do

The pedal keeps the Donut's simple control layout. The Tone knob "adjust the medium frequency response, going from no-mid-boost to solid 'Cut the mix'-tone," according to GUP Tech, so it shapes the midrange from flat to a pronounced mid push that the maker says helps the pedal cut through a band mix.1

Power and bypass

The Donut Douche Edition runs on a 9V DC center negative supply, the standard for most pedalboards, and draws only 5 mA, so it places almost no demand on a shared power supply. Bypass is buffered rather than true bypass, meaning a buffer stays in the signal path when the pedal is off.1

The pedal was listed as sold out on GUP Tech's page as of 26 October 2026.1

Colors and versions

The Douche edition came in three sparkle finishes:

  • Pink Sparkle
  • Blue Sparkle
  • Silver Seafoam

These are part of GUP Tech's broader Douche edition line, a series of sparkle-finished versions of its pedals that has included the TATouh! Texas Treble Boost Douche Edition, the Moth Douche Edition and The Rewolwer - Douche Edition.1

The Double Donut Douche Edition

For players who want two of the circuit at once, GUP Tech announced the Double Donut Douche Edition on 4 August 2022. It is a 1590BB-sized enclosure holding two Donut circuits, with a switch to "Select right, left, or even BOTH sides." It is also a buffered design and runs on the same 9V DC center negative power. Its color options were Pink, Neon Yellow, Silver and Gold, and it too was listed as sold out.2

Where it fits on a board

As a boost that runs into overdrive, the Donut sits in the same territory as other GUP Tech gain pedals like the GrindR and the Baby Honker dual overdrive-boost. Players browsing by effect type can compare it with other boost pedals and overdrive pedals. Its low 5 mA draw and buffered output make it an easy fit on either a small board or a long signal chain.1

Questions

What circuit is the GUP Tech Donut based on?

GUP Tech says the Donut is based on the Hot Cake, the overdrive circuit originally associated with Crowther Audio. The Donut Douche Edition carries that same circuit, with the maker describing it as going from clean boost to a solid overdrive sound. The Double Donut Douche Edition puts two of these Donut circuits in a single larger enclosure.

Is the Donut Douche Edition true bypass or buffered?

It is a buffered design, according to GUP Tech's product page. That means the signal passes through a buffer even when the pedal is off, which can help drive long cable runs, though players who prefer a fully unaltered bypass path may want to factor that into a pedalboard built around true bypass switching.

What power supply does the Donut Douche Edition need?

GUP Tech specifies a 9V DC, center negative supply, the standard for most pedals, with a current draw of only 5 mA. That low draw means it sits comfortably on any ordinary pedalboard power supply without worrying about available current on a given output.

What colors did the Donut Douche Edition come in?

The Douche Edition of the Donut was offered in Pink Sparkle, Blue Sparkle and Silver Seafoam finishes. These sparkling enclosures are the distinguishing feature of the Douche edition, which GUP Tech describes as the same circuit and same boost-overdrive tone in a sparkling box.

How is the Double Donut Douche Edition different?

The Double Donut Douche Edition is a 1590BB-sized enclosure holding two Donut circuits, announced in August 2022. A switch lets you select the right side, the left side, or both at once. It is also a buffered design and runs on 9V DC center negative, and it came in Pink, Neon Yellow, Silver and Gold.

Where is the GUP Tech Donut Douche Edition made?

GUP Tech builds all of its pedals in Saguenay, Québec, Canada, and the Donut Douche Edition is no exception. The company states on its product page that every pedal is made by hand in its shop there.
