Hotone Binary IR Cab

The Hotone Binary IR Cab is a small pedal that holds 100 preset impulse responses, or IRs, of speaker cabinets. An IR is a digital snapshot of how a speaker and its enclosure color a signal, so the pedal lets a player run an amp head, a preamp or a modeler straight into a recording interface or a power amp without a physical cabinet. The 100 models cover vintage and modern guitar and bass cabs inspired by products from Fender, Supro, VOX, Dumble, Marshall, Mesa/Boogie, Bogner, Hartke and more¹. What it does

The pedal's core job is speaker simulation: it takes the signal from whatever comes before it and applies the character of a chosen cabinet. Beyond picking a speaker model, the controls reach into how the cabinet was captured. According to Gearnews, "You can also change the microphone type and the microphone position (X, Y, Z) as well as the speaker model"². That means a player can move an imaginary microphone closer to or further from the cone, and across it, and swap microphone types, shaping the tone the way an engineer would in a room.

The AUX in and headphone output make it usable as a compact practice setup: feed the pedal from an amp modeler or preamp, connect headphones, and play along with material from the AUX input².
