The Hotone Ampero II Stomp is a second-generation multi-effects modeler and effects processor in a compact, pedalboard-friendly chassis1. It packs amp modeling, cabinet simulation, effects, IR loading and flexible routing into a stompbox-format unit built around Hotone's CDCM HD and F.I.R.E. modeling engine2. Hotone announced it in November 2021 as a comprehensively refreshed follow-up to the original Ampero, counting on a more powerful tri-core DSP platform to give it a competitive edge3.

The controls: 4-inch touchscreen and footswitches

Much of the editing happens on the unit's 4-inch touchscreen, which has a newly designed interface for intuitive editing3. The screen is central to how the Stomp works day to day: you drag blocks, adjust routing and build presets on it.

"The touchscreen interface also deserves more credit than it often receives. In practice, editing feels faster and more immediate than many menu-heavy modelers in the same price range."
Cláudio Ribeiro, Bass Musician Magazine2

The unit has four assignable footswitches with multicolor halo LEDs, offering two working modes with customization support6. These are PATCH (preset) mode and STOMP mode: PATCH mode cycles through presets, while STOMP mode turns individual effects on and off like a conventional pedalboard6. Bass Musician Magazine's reviewer found the onboard footswitches responsive and functional2. There is also a 1/4-inch input reserved for an external expression or control pedal, so you can adjust parameters on the fly3.

Amp models, effects and Celestion IRs

The Stomp's model counts come from its launch coverage: 87 amp models, 68 cab sims and over 60 effects, with access to over 400 effects from an expanded effects library3. You can run up to 12 effects modules simultaneously, arranged as a customized dual effect chain with multiple serial and parallel signal routing support3. Preset storage covers some 300 presets spread across 100 banks and three patches3.

For speaker simulation, Hotone teamed up with Celestion: the Stomp comes loaded with 20 Celestion speaker IRs, each powered by Celestion Digital, with 50 custom slots available on the unit for your own IRs3. The modeling itself uses Hotone's CDCM HD + F.I.R.E. technology, which combines white box and black box modeling approaches1.

Connections and USB audio

The Stomp is well connected for a compact unit. It has stereo I/O jacks and stereo FX loop jacks5, an auxiliary input for adding external audio, a headphones output for silent practice and monitoring, and a USB port for managing your effects and sounds3. It can be used as an 8-in, 8-out USB audio interface, allowing you to record direct to your DAW and to reamp3. Bass Musician Magazine highlighted the balanced outputs, stereo capability and MIDI implementation as making it practical for professional stage use2.

History and versions

The Ampero line began with the original Ampero, and the Ampero II Stomp followed as the second-generation modeler and effects processor, housed in a lightweight aluminum enclosure with the four-inch dynamic touchscreen1. Gearnews reported the launch at EUR 4995, MusicRadar at £4293, and Guitar World at $4991.

The Stomp sits inside a wider family. The Ampero II is the full-size second-generation unit, and the Ampero II Stage, unveiled in October 2023, is the third iteration of the Ampero II collection, following the Stomp and the Ampero II Mini7. The Stage ups the control surface to eight assignable footswitches versus the original four, with one serving as a default selector between Patch and Stomp modes7. There is also the smaller, cheaper Ampero Mini.

At launch, MusicRadar positioned the Stomp as a natural competitor to units such as Line 6's Helix Stomp, Headrush's MX5, and Mooer's GE300 Lite3.

What reviewers said

Bass Musician Magazine's Cláudio Ribeiro reviewed the Stomp for bass players in May 2026, praising its routing flexibility and amp models while noting DSP limits and a smaller bass ecosystem than competitors offer. On the amp models2:

"the Ampeg-inspired options standing out as the most immediately convincing for bass"
Cláudio Ribeiro, Bass Musician Magazine2

The review found over 80 amp models on tap, along with a large effects library, stereo operation, parallel routing, MIDI support, USB audio interface functionality and up to 12 simultaneous effect blocks23. The unit remains available, including online at Amazon.com2.
