The Humanoid FX Apparition High Gain Turbo Distortion is a high gain distortion pedal, covered in a Pedal of the Day review in October 2024. Its gain control spans a wide range, and the maker's four-knob layout includes an EQ section for fitting the pedal to any rig.1
What it does
The Apparition's gain knob covers a lot of ground. According to Pedal of the Day's reviewer, the lowest gain setting gives tight blues and classic or hard rock tones. Turn the gain up only a bit and the pedal gets tight and punchy, like a high gain or hot-rodded tube preamp. At maximum gain it approaches full fuzz, with a scooped midrange.1
The EQ section is there to dial the tone in around that gain range. The reviewer summed up the layout this way:
"Just four knobs might seem a little simplistic to some, but when those knobs have as much range as they do here on the Apparition High Gain Turbo Distortion, it’s all good."1

On the overall design, the reviewer's verdict was favorable on ease of use1:
"I love how this one moves so easily from breakup to crunch to distortion to fuzz, all with basically one knob, and then [the EQ] lets you dial it in perfectly1."

Power
The Apparition runs on 9V standard (Boss style) power. Pedal of the Day's reviewer recommends using an isolated power supply with it.1
An isolated power supply is recommended for the Apparition, rather than sharing power with other pedals on a daisy chain.1
