The BPL Bi-Stage Phaser is a phaser pedal made by Ibanez, part of the company's Master Series L range. It was produced from 1985 to 1986, so every example in circulation today is a vintage unit1. Like any phaser, it sweeps notches through your signal to produce the swirling, jet-like effect heard on countless rock and funk records; for more on how the effect works, see Phaser Pedals.
Price and production
The pedal was sold in Germany at a list price of 285 DM in 1985, and at $125 USD in 19861. It has never been reissued, so the only way to own one is to find a vintage example1.
Finding one today
According to the reference site ToneHome, availability of the BPL Bi-Stage Phaser is rated good, meaning examples turn up on the used market with some regularity, and its collectibility is rated average1. That combination makes it one of the more approachable vintage Ibanez pedals for a player who wants the original rather than a reissue. ToneHome also hosts the original manual as a PDF1.
The BPL Bi-Stage Phaser has never been reissued by Ibanez1. Players looking for a modern Ibanez phaser will need to look at other models in the company's history.
