Status as of January 2, 2018Announced, no official demo released yet1

The Ibanez NTS, or Nu Tube Screamer, is an overdrive pedal announced as an expansion of the company's Tube Screamer offering. What sets it apart from pedals like the Ibanez TS808 and Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer is its use of Korg's NuTube technology, which the announcement described as adding "a new dimension of tube-like tone"1.

What it does

The NTS is an overdrive in the Tube Screamer family, but it departs from the standard circuit in two ways. First, it uses Korg's NuTube technology, a miniature tube that Ibanez leaned on to bring tube-like tone into the pedal1. Second, it adds a Mix knob that lets you set the balance between your clean and overdriven signals, so you can blend the effect in parallel rather than hearing only the overdriven output1. That parallel-blend control is not a feature of the classic Tube Screamer designs such as the Ibanez Tube Screamer Mini.

"Ibanez has just announced that it will expand its offering with the NTS, or NuTube Screamer, overdrive."

Status

As of the January 2, 2018 announcement, Ibanez had not released an official demo of the NTS, so published impressions of how it sounds were not yet available at that time1. For other takes on the Tube Screamer formula, see the Overdrive Pedals type page or the Ibanez NTS Tube Screamer page.

Questions

What is the Ibanez NTS Nu Tube Screamer?

It is an overdrive pedal from Ibanez, announced as an expansion of the Tube Screamer line. Its distinguishing feature is Korg's NuTube technology, which the announcement described as adding a new dimension of tube-like tone. It also adds a Mix knob that lets you set the balance between your clean and overdriven signals, something the standard Tube Screamer circuit does not offer.

How does the Mix knob work on the NTS?

According to the announcement, the Mix knob lets you set the balance between your clean and overdriven signals. That means you can run the overdrive alongside an untouched version of your guitar signal and dial in how much of each you hear, rather than hearing only the fully overdriven output.
