The Ibanez TS808-TMv.2 is a modified version of the classic Ibanez TS808 Tube Screamer overdrive, built as a collaboration between Ibanez and Godlyke and carrying the signature of Susumu Tamura, the pedal's original designer. It is the second Tamura-modded Tube Screamer the two companies have released, and it reworks the familiar circuit with NOS Toshiba 1S1588 clipping diodes and increased output level12.

What the mod does

The Tube Screamer is known for the midrange hump that helps a guitar cut through a band mix, and the Tamura mod takes a different path. Guitar World reported that this second incarnation "ditches the midrange hump of the much-adored pedal in favor of a bottom-heavy thump" that moves more air than the factory pedal, describing the resulting tone as having "more hair" and a "bottom-heavy thump"1.

Godlyke's product page lists increased output level among the modification's features2. Players who find a stock Tube Screamer thin or mid-forward have a different flavor of the circuit here, one that leans low instead.

Hardware and footswitch

One visible change from the standard pedal is the switching. The TS808-TMv.2 includes a standard Carling SPST plunger footswitch, in contrast to the square and rectangular switches used on other versions1.

Versions and availability

The TS808-TMv.2 followed a first Tamura-modded TS808 that Godlyke and Ibanez released in 202113. Guitar World noted that, unlike that 2021 mod, there was no mention of limited quantities for the v.21. The pedal is nonetheless listed as sold out on Godlyke's product page as of late 20262.

The first 50 pedals carried an introductory price of $299, with units sold thereafter fetching $349 apiece1. Godlyke's page now shows the pedal as sold out2.

Players interested in the wider Tube Screamer family can compare it with the stock Ibanez TS808, the Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer, the hand-wired Ibanez TS808HWV2, or the earlier Ibanez TS9-TM Tamura-Mod Tube Screamer. For the broader category, see the site's guide to Overdrive Pedals.
