The Dragon Sound Tone Booster is an active three band boost from IdiotBox Effects. Instead of a single volume-style boost, it gives you three EQ bands to shape your tone as you lift it: LOW at 125Hz, MID at 875Hz and HIGH at 5kHz. IdiotBox Effects sells it for $99.00 as of 26 October 20261.

Controls

The Dragon Sound's three bands cover the low end, the midrange and the top of a guitar's signal, each fixed at its stated frequency1:

ControlCenter frequencyWhat it shapes
LOW125HzBass and low end body
MID875HzMidrange presence
HIGH5kHzTreble and top end sparkle

Because it is an active circuit, the bands can cut as well as boost, which gives more shaping range than a passive tone stack. IdiotBox Effects describes the pedal as "A must have for any rocking Miami Connection fan :)"1, a nod to the cult film the pedal's artwork references.

Power and bypass

The Dragon Sound runs on 9V DC with center negative polarity, through a common 2.1mm BOSS style power input, and draws 27mA1. It also has a battery snap, so it can run on a battery. IdiotBox Effects notes that a power supply is not included1.

The Dragon Sound draws 27mA, which is higher than many simple boost pedals. A battery will work, but for regular use a standard 9V DC center negative supply rated for at least 27mA is the practical choice.

Switching is true bypass, so the pedal is out of your signal path when it is off1.

Size

The pedal sits in a smaller 125B sized enclosure, measuring 4.7" x 2.6" x 1.5"1. That compact footprint keeps it easy to fit alongside other pedals on a board.

Questions

Is the IdiotBox Dragon Sound true bypass?

Yes. IdiotBox Effects specifies true bypass switching on the Dragon Sound Tone Booster, so when the pedal is off, your guitar's signal passes straight through to the output without going through the boost circuit. That matters on a pedalboard where you want the pedal out of the signal path until you step on it.

Does the IdiotBox Dragon Sound take a battery?

Yes. The Dragon Sound has a battery snap alongside its power jack, so it can run on a battery as well as a 9V DC adapter. Note that IdiotBox Effects does not include a power supply with the pedal, so you would need to supply your own adapter or use a battery.

Does the Dragon Sound come with a power supply?

No. IdiotBox Effects states on the product page that a power supply is not included. The pedal uses a common 9V DC center negative 2.1mm BOSS style power input, so most standard pedal power supplies and daisy chains will fit it.

What polarity does the Dragon Sound need?

The Dragon Sound needs 9V DC center negative, using the common 2.1mm BOSS style power input. That is the standard polarity for most pedal power supplies, so it works with typical pedalboard power setups.

How big is the IdiotBox Dragon Sound pedal?

IdiotBox Effects houses the Dragon Sound in a smaller 125B sized enclosure measuring 4.7 inches by 2.6 inches by 1.5 inches. That is a compact footprint by pedal standards, so it takes up little room on a pedalboard.
