The IRIN AN-40 10-Band EQ is an analog graphic equalizer pedal for electric guitar, made by IRIN. It gives you ten bands of boost and cut spanning 31.25 Hz to 16 kHz, each with plus or minus 12 dB of adjustment, plus a master volume control1. RockBoard's PedalPedia describes it as having "great voice shaping and single level control capabilities, suitable for creating attenuated mid frequency and a large number of low-frequency rhythmic voices"1. It sits among equalization pedals as a tone shaping tool rather than a time or gain effect.

Controls

The pedal's front panel is straightforward: ten EQ bands and a volume knob1.

With that much range per band, the AN-40 can do more than gentle tone tweaks. Scooping the mids, lifting the low end for a heavier rhythm sound, or trimming harsh upper frequencies are all within reach of the plus or minus 12 dB each band offers1.

Power and connections

The AN-40 runs on a 9V DC supply with the external positive and internal negative polarity, which is the center negative standard most pedalboard power supplies use. It draws 30 mA1.

RockBoard's PedalPedia specifies a DC 9V external positive and internal negative power input, so use a center negative supply and the correct polarity adapter1.

The 1 megohm input impedance is high enough that passive single coils and humbuckers see a typical pedal load, and the 100 ohm output impedance is low enough to feed long cables or further pedals without obvious top end loss1.

Where it came from

The AN-40 is made by IRIN and built in Mainland China1. The maker's own product page is candid about its lineage, describing it as "a Joyo EQ clone but without the lights"1. That means the circuit follows the well known Joyo graphic equalizer design, with the LED indicators of the Joyo version left off. For a player, the practical difference is a lower cost pedal with the same ten band graphic layout and no per band light show.

Size and weight

The AN-40 measures 108 (L) x 69 (W) x 51 (H) mm and weighs 0.35 kg, so it takes up little room on a pedalboard1.
