The J. Rockett Audio Designs Uni-Verb is a chorus and vibrato pedal built as an analog recreation of the classic Univibe, with a spring reverb added at the end of the chain. Released in July 2022, it was the second pedal in J. Rockett Audio Designs' Classic Series12. Designer Chris Van Tassel described it as a long effort to get the vintage circuit right while adding modern features:
"This was a five year project to create the most authentic Univibe pedal we could while adding modern features players would love"1
Chris Van Tassel, J. Rockett Audio, in Guitar World1
The vibe side uses photocell technology like the vintage units, and MusicRadar's reviewer found that "it gets the classic Uni-Vibe tones right"3. The reverb side is a one-knob '50s-style spring tank emulation, which Gearnews described as running alongside a "classic '60s style analogue Univibe"4.
What it is and what it does
The Uni-Verb recreates the classic Univibe chorus and vibrato sounds and adds a spring reverb meant to emulate a classic tank reverb from the 1950s9. Premier Guitar's reviewer found the reverb "immersive, engaging and fun"5. The two halves can be used together or separately, and an effects loop between them lets you insert other pedals into the chain.
The modulation section is analog. Premier Guitar's reviewer noted that "though its reverb component is digital, Uni-Verb's modulation section is not a digital facsimile"5. The reverb is generated by an Accutronics Digi-Log module5.
The controls and footswitches
It is a three-footswitch pedal3. Where the original Univibe used a rocker switch to choose between vibe and chorus, the Uni-Verb puts that choice on a footswitch so it can be changed mid-performance10.
| Control or switch | What it does |
|---|---|
| Chorus controls (two knobs) | Set the chorus side, including the intensity of the turnaround9 |
| Vibe control (one knob) | Serves the vibrato side9 |
| Output | Master level; goes very slightly louder than a classic Uni-Vibe output control9 |
| Reverb knob | Controls the intensity of the reverb4 |
| Dwell knob | Part of the basic spring reverb controls on the reverb side9 |
| Bypass footswitch | Master on/off for the pedal11 |
| Vibrato/Chorus footswitch | Toggles between the two modulation modes3 |
| Reverb footswitch | Engages the reverb independently7 |
The central footswitch performs the Vibrato/Chorus toggle, flanked by footswitches for Reverb and On/Off1. The On/Off switch engages the vibrato and chorus effect1.
The effects loop
A built-in effects loop separates the Vibe effect from the Reverb effect, so you can put drives, fuzzes or other pedals between them9. Gearnews notes this makes it possible to use both effects individually or together4. For players chasing vintage signal chains, this is the pedal's headline feature: it lets a fuzz sit between the vibe and the spring reverb without rewiring the board.
Power: 24V inside from a 9V supply
The original Univibe ran at 24V internally, and the Uni-Verb does the same, but you do not need a special supply for it. J. Rockett designed it to run off a standard negative-tip 9V feed, with a charge pump inside bumping the voltage up to 24V8. Gearnews and Pedal of the Day both confirm the internal 24V operation on a modern 9V supply49.
The Uni-Verb is powered by a 9-volt mains supply only; there is no battery option6. The adaptor is not supplied3.
Versions, price and what reviewers said
The published sources disagree on price: one lists the Uni-Verb at $449 street in the US and £465 street in the UK1, while another gives $11910. The $449 street figure appears alongside the pedal's launch coverage, which quotes designer Chris Van Tassel of J. Rockett Audio1.
The enclosure is a visual like-for-like with the original Univibe, apart from the missing Vibrato/Chorus rocker switch, replaced by the central footswitch1. J. Rockett says it also improved the vibe section of the original to make it "very musical and usable"1.
Reviewer verdicts were positive across the press:
- MusicRadar: "It gets the classic Uni-Vibe tones right"3
- Guitar World: "Cool spring reverb sound"11
- Pedal of the Day: "it looks and sounds marvelous, and the addition of the reverb is the icing on the cake"9
- Premier Guitar: the reverb is "immersive, engaging and fun"5

Questions
Is the J. Rockett Uni-Verb analog?
The modulation side is analog: Premier Guitar's reviewer noted that the Uni-Vibe-style chorus and vibrato section is not a digital facsimile, and Gearnews described the pedal as an analog Univibe circuit. The reverb side is digital, generated by an Accutronics Digi-Log module built to sound like a 1950s spring tank.
Does the Uni-Verb have an effects loop?
Yes. A built-in effects loop sits between the vibe section and the reverb section, so you can plug drives, fuzzes or other pedals into the loop and have them land between the two effects in the signal chain. The loop also lets you use the vibe and reverb individually or together.
Can you put a fuzz between the vibe and the reverb on the Uni-Verb?
Yes. The effects loop is designed exactly for that. Pedal of the Day describes it as a way to separate the Vibe effect from the Reverb effect and put drives, fuzzes or whatever you like between them, which mirrors how players ran vintage Uni-Vibes and spring reverbs with fuzz in the 1960s.
Is the Uni-Verb stereo?
No. The output is mono. Delicious Audio lists a single mono output, and MusicRadar's connections list a standard input, a standard output, a standard send and a standard return, with no second output.
