The J Rockett Mark Lettieri Melody is a signature overdrive with a 6-band EQ, built for guitarist Mark Lettieri and released by J. Rockett Audio Designs at the 2018 NAMM Show12. It is a mid-gain overdrive whose six-band equalizer sits after the gain stages, giving the player detailed tone shaping over the driven signal rather than the usual treble and bass pair1.

Lettieri's own take on the pedal was blunt:

"It's the most flexible overdrive I have ever played."

Where it came from

The Melody began as a different signature project. Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson writes that what became the Mark Lettieri Melody started as a fledgling Keith Urban project, mostly based on the J. Rockett Animal circuit1. It later turned into a Mark Lettieri project, drawing on three existing J Rockett designs: The Dude (Dumble-style), the Blue Note (TS808-style) and the Majestic (Marshall JMP-style)1. Premier Guitar reported the release in February 2018, describing it as the Mark Lettieri signature Melody EQ/Overdrive2.

Controls and the post-gain EQ

The control set is short: Volume, Gain and the 6-Band Post Gain EQ1. The EQ's position is the pedal's defining feature. On the overdrives in this family, Guitar Pedal X notes that the EQ "takes effect after the Gain stages or Post-Gain as such"1. In practice, that means the six bands shape the tone of the already-clipped signal, so a player can dial out a harsh frequency or add body to the overdrive voice without changing how the gain stages themselves behave.

What reviewers said

Guitar Pedal X placed the Melody in a J Rockett family alongside the IQ and the Rockaway Archer, and characterized it as "more typically a mid-gain overdrive vs the Rockaway Archer which has somewhat broader and more extensive gain range"1. The same reviewer's verdict on dialing it in:

"The overdrive does nothing for me with everything flat - but once you've applied some due diligence you can dial in some [pretty impressive tones]."
Stefan Karlsson, Guitar Pedal X1

That is the trade the review describes: the Melody is not as immediate as the Rockaway Archer's dial-in and tone, but it rewards working the EQ1.

Price

Guitar Pedal X listed the Melody at $199 USD in April 20221. The same outlet's July 2026 pricing put the Melody at £199 in the UK, alongside £229 for the IQ and £249 for the Rockaway Archer1.

Questions

Who designed the J Rockett Mark Lettieri Melody?

The Melody is a signature pedal developed with guitarist Mark Lettieri, known for his work with Snarky Puppy. Guitar Pedal X notes that the project began as a Keith Urban design mostly based on the J Rockett Animal circuit, and later became the Mark Lettieri Melody, built on The Dude, Blue Note and Majestic circuits. It was released by J. Rockett Audio Designs at the 2018 NAMM Show.

Which circuits is the Melody based on?

According to Guitar Pedal X, the Melody draws on three J Rockett circuits: The Dude, associated with Dumble-style tones, the Blue Note, associated with the TS808, and the Majestic, associated with the Marshall JMP. Those three voicings sit behind a single overdrive with a 6-band post-gain EQ.

Is the EQ on the Melody before or after the gain?

The 6-band EQ sits after the gain stages, which Guitar Pedal X describes as post-gain. That means the EQ shapes the already-distorted signal, so the six bands work more like a tone-shaping tool for the overdrive voice than a pre-gain EQ that changes how the circuit clips.

How does the Melody compare to the Rockaway Archer?

Guitar Pedal X describes the Melody as more typically a mid-gain overdrive, while the Rockaway Archer has a somewhat broader and more extensive gain range. The same reviewer also found the Rockaway's dial-in and tone more immediate, with the Melody rewarding some time spent on its EQ.

How much does the Melody cost in the US?

Guitar Pedal X listed the Melody at $199 in the US in April 2022. The same review gave a UK price of £199 as of July 2026, alongside £229 for the IQ and £249 for the Rockaway Archer.
