The "Achenbach" Dyna-ssoR is JAM Pedals' vintage-voiced compressor pedal, reimagined through the artwork of The Simpsons artist John Achenbach. Under the paint it is the same circuit as the standard Dyna-ssoR: a two-knob compressor built around a NOS CA3080 chip that JAM describes as delivering "vintage punch, satisfying squash and long sustain without flattening the life out of your tone"1.

What the Dyna-ssoR does

JAM positions the Dyna-ssoR as a compressor in the classic mold: the circuit "combines the spirit of classic Ross and Dyna Comp circuits in a simple two-knob design"1. The CA3080 is a new-old-stock chip that the maker says delivers "the vintage attack, compression and sustain associated with classic compressor designs"1. The circuit is tuned, in JAM's words, to control dynamics "while keeping the instrument's original character and musical expression intact"1, which is the usual complaint about compressors that squash a player's touch into uniformity.

Controls

The pedal keeps things to two knobs1:

ControlWhat it does
SustainSets compression and sustain. Turn it up for thumpy, compressed attack and singing hold; back it down to gently control peaks while keeping playing dynamics intact.
LevelSets output level.

That is the whole layout: a simple two-knob design, so the pedal is set by ear with two turns rather than a menu1.

Power and practical details

The Dyna-ssoR runs on a 9V battery or a 9V DC center-negative supply and draws 5 mA1, which is light enough for any standard pedalboard supply. It is true bypass1, so the circuit is out of the signal path when off. Its footprint of 11.1 x 7 x 4.8 cm including jacks and controls, and 230 g weight, put it in compact-pedal territory1.

Artwork versions and availability

The "Achenbach" edition is one of several faces of the same circuit. JAM lists custom artwork versions "in stock" with the same sound and different artwork, including the "Lunar Trails" Dyna-ssoR3 and the "Relic" Dyna-ssoR13, alongside the standard Dyna-ssoR and the Custom Dyna-ssoR.

The "Achenbach" Dyna-ssoR is listed as sold out on JAM Pedals' site as of 25 October 20262. Every limited artwork pedal is a one-of-a-kind hand-painted piece, and the maker notes the pedal you receive will differ in detail from the photos shown1.

JAM's product page lists the regular price at £264.00 GBP1 and describes shipping as DDP with 20% UK VAT and all duties included, with no extra charges on delivery1. The maker also offers a 30-day money-back guarantee with a refund no questions asked1.
