The Jed's Peds Ritual Fuzz is a DIY fuzz pedal kit: a one-knob fuzz built on the company's Multi Fuzz PCB, part of its One Knob Fuzz range. Jed's Peds describes it as "a classic fuzz pedal, easy to put together and gives out a great tone," and notes that this version is "a very responsive little fuzz, especially to the guitar knob being adjusted," so cleaning it up from the guitar's volume control is part of how it plays.1
Versions and what you get
The kit is sold in several versions, from a bare board to a fully drilled enclosure1:
- PCB Only: just the plain PCB
- PCB & Components
- PCB & Components and off board parts
- Full Kit
- Full Kit & Drilling: drilling includes all the holes for a complete pedal, an optional extra with a small surcharge
- Pre Built Kit: Jed's Peds builds it for you; you must add your knobs from the knob section or it will come without them
The kit is supplied with a JP1590B enclosure, and the PCB hangs from the pot inside it, which keeps the build compact around the single control.1
On the pre-built option, no returns are accepted. Jed's Peds states: "There are no returns accepted on these but I do give a 12 month repair warranty."1
Where it sits
Jed's Peds says this kit "compares to the Ritual Fuzz by Black Arts," and presents that as a comparison only, with no endorsement from Black Arts.1 Black Arts Toneworks sells its own Limited Edition Fuzz Ritual as a finished fuzz pedal2, so the Jed's Peds version is the route for a player who wants that style of fuzz as a solder-it-yourself build. It sits alongside other one-knob kits in the maker's range, such as the Jed's Peds Octavio kit and the Jed's Peds Fat Maggie Fake-tory Fuzz. For the wider field, see Fuzz Pedals.
Questions
Is the Jed's Peds Ritual Fuzz a kit or a finished pedal?
It is sold as a DIY fuzz pedal kit, with versions ranging from a plain PCB up to a full kit with a drilled enclosure. Jed's Peds also offers a pre-built option: if you choose it, you must add your own knobs from the knob section, or the pedal will arrive without them. The pre-built version carries a 12 month repair warranty and no returns are accepted.
Does the Ritual Fuzz respond to the guitar's volume knob?
Yes. Jed's Peds describes this version as a very responsive little fuzz, especially to the guitar knob being adjusted. Like many one-knob fuzzes, cleaning up at the guitar's volume control is part of how players are meant to work with it.
What enclosure comes with the Ritual Fuzz kit?
The kit is supplied with a JP1590B enclosure. The PCB hangs from the pot inside the enclosure. Drilling all the holes for a complete pedal is available as an optional extra on the Full Kit & Drilling version, for a small surcharge.
Is the Ritual Fuzz based on the Black Arts Ritual Fuzz?
Jed's Peds says the kit compares to the Ritual Fuzz by Black Arts, and presents this as a comparison only, with no endorsement. Black Arts Toneworks sells its own Limited Edition Fuzz Ritual as a finished fuzz pedal.
What warranty comes with the pre-built Ritual Fuzz?
The pre-built kit comes with a 12 month repair warranty from Jed's Peds. There are no returns accepted on these units, so the repair warranty is the cover offered after purchase.
