The Murder By Fuzz is a fuzz pedal from Jellyfish Electronics, a New Hampshire based boutique manufacturer. Announced in February 2017, it is a Muff derived design built around two different, selectable, MOSFET transistors, which sets it apart from the silicon or germanium arrangements common to other fuzzes.1
What it does
Delicious Audio's Christopher Scapelliti described the pedal as one that "will make your heart stop with its gobs of rich silky fuzz." The two selectable MOSFET transistors are the core of the design, letting the player choose between voicings rather than committing to a single transistor character.1
"The selectable modes provide either full thick bottom end or rich focused midrange."
That choice is the pedal's main personality control: one mode leans into a full, thick bottom end, the other into a rich, focused midrange that can sit differently in a band mix. Beyond the mode selection, the pedal carries a three knob EQ section, which Scapelliti noted makes it "improved in flexibility" compared with simpler fuzz designs.1
For players weighing a fuzz against a distortion or overdrive, the Murder By Fuzz sits firmly in the fuzz camp, with the Muff derived lineage that implies: compressed, sustaining saturation rather than the tighter response of a drive pedal1.
