JHS BOSS TR-2 Two Speed Mod

The JHS BOSS TR-2 Two Speed Mod is a modification of the stock Boss TR-2 tremolo pedal, carried out by JHS Pedals. JHS describes the result as turning "this standard mass produced trem into a vintage Two-Speed tone monster," based on the Boss TR-2 circuit¹. It is a tremolo effect, in the family of tremolo pedals.

What it does

The mod starts with JHS's Versa Trem Mod, which the company says "gives you that vintage amp trem character and body you're looking" for¹. On top of that, JHS adds "a second speed knob and footswitch that allows you to alternate between two ind[ependently controlled speeds]"¹. In JHS's words, "This is like having two tremolos in one enclosure"¹: you set a slow speed and a fast speed, and the added footswitch switches between them mid-song without touching a knob.

The underlying Versa Trem Mod also does two things to the stock TR-2 that matter to players. It expands the depth and speed range "for everything from vintage to modern tones"³, and it addresses a known weakness of the stock pedal: "The stock TR-2 also suffers from a volume loss when engaged," which the mod fixes³. In JHS's demo video, Jim of JHS Pedals explains that "we've fixed the volume drop problem by adding an output volume knob"².

Getting one

JHS has offered the modified TR-2 both ways: in the 2011 demo video, Jim tells viewers they can "pick up a new one or have as mod your old one today at JHS pedals calm [com]," meaning JHS either sells a modified pedal new or mods a customer's existing TR-2². The related single-speed version is covered on the [JHS modified Boss TR-2 "Versa-Trem"]( /pedal/jhs-modified-boss-tr-2-versa-trem) page.

Demo

JHS Pedals' own demo video introduces the modified TR-2 as "the JH s modified Bosch tremolo pedal"², walks through the volume drop fix with the added output volume knob, and demonstrates the tremolo sounds of the modified circuit.
