The BCC-SECRETPATH is a reverb pedal from Laney, part of the company's BCC boutique effect pedal range. Laney bills it as a "Boutique Effect Pedal - Reverb Shimmer", and it covers three reverb voices in one small box: Spring, Plate and The Secret Path1. If you are shopping the wider field, it sits among Reverb Pedals and is closely related to the Laney Black Country Customs Secret Path.
The three modes
The pedal's core is its three reverb modes, selected on the unit:
- Spring and Plate: Laney describes these as "crafted reverbs for Spring and Plate, reminiscent of the heyday of classic amp and studio tones combined with modern day sound quality and reliability"1. In plain terms, these are the familiar amp-style spring and studio-style plate sounds most players know from records.
- The Secret Path: Laney's own description is "a deep, dark, mesmerising ambience with a sublime, brooding, dynamically evolving shimmer"1. This is the mode the pedal is named for, and it is where the shimmer character in its product title comes from.
On top of the three modes, an Enhanced mode includes Modulation, adding movement to the reverb1.
Controls and expression pedal
The BCC-SECRETPATH supports Expression Pedal Control, so an expression pedal can be connected for hands-free adjustment while playing1.
Build and size
The pedal is built with solid metal chassis construction and uses what Laney calls a "totally silent switching system": the company states that "we take great care in designing a switching system that is totally silent in operation"1. At 60mm x 70mm x 125mm (HWD) and 0.38kg, it is a compact, lightweight unit that takes up little room on a board1.
