The Lastgasp Art Laboratories Transroom is a stereo reverb with modulation, built as a stompbox. Where most analog reverbs use a spring tank, the Transroom is all analog and uses BBD (bucket brigade device) chips for both the reverb and the modulation section, in the manner of some 1980s reverb pedals.1
The modulation section can deliver a range of tones from rich multi-tap chorus to winding vibrato sounds, sitting on top of what Delicious Audio describes as a "warm stereo reverb with modulation."1
Controls
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Rate | Speed of the modulation section |
| Depth | Intensity of the modulation section |
| D.TIME | Reverb length, also controllable externally |
Modulation has controls for rate and depth, and an expression jack allows external control of the "D.TIME" (reverb length), so the reverb length can be swept from an expression pedal during play.1
How it differs from other analog reverbs
The BBD approach is the Transroom's distinguishing feature. A BBD chip passes an audio signal along a chain of capacitors in steps, which is how chorus and vibrato pedals create their delay-and-wobble character; using BBD devices for the reverb itself, rather than a spring, ties the Transroom to the analog reverb pedals of the 1980s. The modulation side covers territory familiar from chorus pedals and vibrato pedals, from multi-tap chorus textures to vibrato.1
What reviewers said
Delicious Audio added the Transroom to its reverb pedal guides, describing it as a "warm stereo reverb with modulation" and noting that, while most analog reverbs have a spring in them, this one uses BBD devices for both the reverb and the modulation section.1
If you are comparing it with digital designs, it sits apart from most modern reverb pedals, which use digital processing for long, realistic spaces; the Transroom's analog BBD path is a deliberately different character of reverb.1
