The LiberaToe Blue Crow is a compact analog stompbox that delivers two dirt tones in one box: classic overdrive and vintage-style distortion, selected at the flick of a toggle switch. It is built to be embedded in a modular, cable-less pedalboard alongside other units by the same builder, so it suits players assembling a LiberaToe system rather than a conventional board of separate pedals1.
LiberaToe describes the Blue Crow as a compact stompbox that can be embedded in a modular, cable-less pedalboard with other units by the same builder1.
What it does
The Blue Crow is a two-channel dirtbox. One channel is an overdrive that, in LiberaToe's description, acts like a preamp inside a large tube amp head; the other is a distortion that acts like a power amp, producing a tenacious break-up through massive output1. The pedal also delivers enough output to get any amp's input stage to saturate, which the maker says further contributes to the resulting sound1.
Controls and channels
Eight knobs let the player fine-tune each channel with precision. The red knobs set the overdrive tone and the green knobs set the distortion tone1.
The two channels can also work together. On the red channel, overdrive and distortion are stacked, with the overdrive pushing the amplifier in the way an overdrive pedal normally would1. Taken as a whole, the maker describes three usages: boosted distortion, as well as overdrive and distortion on their own1.
The Blue Crow runs at 18V, which the maker credits for its high headroom1. That is above the supply voltage of many common pedals, so plan your power accordingly.
Where it sits on a board
As a dirt pedal it covers ground familiar from overdrive pedals and distortion pedals, but its defining trait is the format: it is made to slot into LiberaToe's modular, cable-less pedalboard system with other units by the same builder1.
