The Richter Scale Tremolo is a tremolo pedal from Like My Pedals, a small builder whose pedals Pedal of the Day reviewed in November 2015. It carries four control knobs and a single on/off footswitch, and it is built for players who want an easy-to-use tremolo with a wide range of tones1.

What it does

Tremolo modulates the volume of your signal, producing the pulsing effect long associated with vintage amplifiers. Pedal of the Day's reviewer, Mike B, found the Richter Scale gives off "lush, swirling tremolo sounds, as deep or as subtle as you need them to be"1.

Controls

ControlWhat it does
SpeedControls how fast or slow the tremolo sound pulses1
DepthSets how strong the effect is1
WaveformShapes the character of the pulse1
GainAdditional gain stage on the audio path1

A single footswitch turns the effect on and off1.

What reviewers said

Pedal of the Day reviewed the pedal on 2 November 2015, describing it as a newer model and thinking they had "one of the first ones to test"1. The reviewer's verdict was warm on both sound and value:

"Deep, rich, gorgeous and bold are just a few words to describe the sounds pouring out of the Richter Scale Tremolo pedal."
Mike B, Pedal of the Day1

He summed it up as an easy-to-use trem with a bunch of great tones and a great price to boot, and praised the simplicity of the pedal produced by the builder1.

The enclosure

Like My Pedals finishes its pedals in simple but bold enclosures with no graphics or text. Mike B noted that, with this approach, "their pedals are very easily recognizable"1. If you are used to pedals labeled with screen-printed legends, expect a plain box and to learn the knob layout by position instead.

Questions

What does the Speed knob do on the Richter Scale Tremolo?

Speed controls how fast or slow the tremolo sound pulses. Turning it clockwise raises the rate of the volume modulation, and turning it back slows the pulse down, so you can set anything from a slow swell to a fast stutter.

Does the Richter Scale Tremolo have a depth control?

Yes. Alongside Speed, the pedal carries Depth, Waveform and Gain controls, so you can set how strong the effect is and shape the character of the pulse. Pedal of the Day described its sounds as lush and swirling, as deep or as subtle as you need them to be.

What did Pedal of the Day say about the Richter Scale Tremolo?

Reviewer Mike B called it an easy-to-use trem with a bunch of great tones and a great price, and wrote that deep, rich, gorgeous and bold were just a few words to describe the sounds coming out of it. He noted it was a newer model at the time of the review.

Why does the Richter Scale Tremolo have no graphics on the enclosure?

That is the builder's house style. Like My Pedals uses simple but bold enclosures with no graphics or text, which Pedal of the Day noted makes their pedals very easily recognizable.
