The Lone Wolf Audio Acetylene Nirvana is a VCF Sample/Hold pedal, a filter effect with elements of phaser, wah and filter thrown in. It is 100% analog, and Pedal of the Day describes its range as covering funk (auto-wah), outer space (phaser) and sequencer (random step generator) tones, among others.1
What it does
The Acetylene Nirvana takes its circuit from the Oberheim Voltage Controlled Filter / Maestro Filter Sample Hold, a unit from the early to mid 1970s. Pedal of the Day's reviewer called it "a pretty rad re-creation" of that original.1
Five controls shape the sound: Resonance, Filter, Attack, Decay and Speed. The reviewer notes that they all work together to create what he described as huge and weird sonic soundscapes.1
A left-hand footswitch transitions the pedal into Sample/Hold mode, where it becomes what the reviewer called an unpredictable, tremolo-ish sound.1
Because the circuit is fully analog, there is a little bit of noise that comes with it, though the reviewer found it quickly disappears after you start turning knobs.1
