The Lucid OD is an overdrive from LSL Instruments, a maker best known for high-end Leo-style guitar builds that has also started building overdrive pedals. It is the company's version of a Klon Centaur, listed at $229, and was reviewed by Vintage Guitar alongside the LSL OG OD, a Tube Screamer-style overdrive listed at $2001.
What It Does
The Lucid OD offers three controls: Volume, Gain, and Tone. The Tone knob works backward from most pedals, getting darker as you turn it clockwise and more trebly as it is backed off1.
Reviewer Pete Prown, writing in Vintage Guitar, plugged the pedal into a Vox clone and found it produced everything from "unity gain" clean to chunky dirt tones, akin to a non-Master-Volume Marshall1.
"For a mere fraction, the Lucid offers a highly transparent overdrive that pairs well with any guitar and amp"
That transparency is the point of the Klon-style design: the pedal aims to add drive without coloring the guitar's basic voice, which is why players often use this type of circuit as a boost or a light push in front of an amp, alongside other overdrive pedals. At $229, it sits at a fraction of the price of a vintage Klon Centaur, which is the value case Prown makes for it1.
