Controls
The layout is familiar to anyone who has used a Tube Screamer-style pedal, with one addition:
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Volume | Sets overall output level |
| Tone | Shapes the treble response |
| Gain | Sets the amount of overdrive |
| Bass switch | Offers three unique voices, for dialing in the overdrive flavor that suits whichever amp you are using1 |
The Bass switch is the pedal's main departure from the standard three-knob formula, giving you three low-end voicings to match the pedal to your amp1.
What reviewers said
Vintage Guitar's April 2025 review, by Pete Prown, found a wide usable range on the Gain control:
"you can get everything from a just-off-clean to half-stack bite without treading into any distorted metal flavors"
On the pedal's overall character at high settings:
"Cranked up, the OG OD proved so versatile and lively that it was hard to resist leaving it on all the time."
Where it came from
The OG OD appeared in Vintage Guitar's April 2025 issue as one of LSL Instruments' first overdrive pedals, alongside the Lucid OD1. The company had built its name on high-end Leo-style guitars before delving into overdrive pedals1. Questions
What kind of overdrive is the LSL OG OD?
It is a Tube Screamer-style overdrive. Vintage Guitar's reviewer described it as LSL Instruments' "original gangster spin on the Maxon/Ibanez Tube Screamer," built around an RC4558P IC chip for warm tones. It carries the familiar Volume, Tone, and Gain controls, plus a Bass switch with three voices that lets you match the low end to whichever amp you are playing through.
How much does the LSL OG OD cost?
Vintage Guitar's April 2025 review listed the OG OD at $200 USD. That review also covered LSL's Lucid OD, a Klon Centaur-style overdrive, which was listed at $229. Both were part of the company's first move into overdrive pedals, after building a reputation on high-end Leo-style guitars.
What does the Bass switch on the OG OD do?
The Bass switch offers three unique voices for dialing in the best overdrive flavor for whichever amp you are using. It is the pedal's main departure from a standard Tube Screamer layout, which otherwise sticks to the usual Volume, Tone, and Gain dials.
