The Malekko Omicron Fuzz is a compact fuzz pedal that takes its circuit from the Uni-Vox SuperFuzz. Guitar Pedal X, in its 2022 selection of mini fuzz pedals, called it "A really cool mini take on the Uni-Vox SuperFuzz"1. It sits in Malekko's Omicron line of small-format pedals, alongside other Malekko fuzz designs such as the Barker Assmaster and B:Assmaster.
Controls and the internal switch
The pedal carries three external-facing controls: Drive, Volume, and a Voicing control with three positions: Octave, Low-End Boost, or Both1.
The Voicing setting is the pedal's distinguishing feature. As Guitar Pedal X put it, "the magic secret sauce is the internal 3-way dip-switch where you select Octave / Low-End Boost or Both together Modes"1. In other words, the octave and low-end boost voicings are selected with a switch inside the pedal rather than on the top panel, so a player who wants to change voicing mid-set opens the pedal up rather than reaching for a knob.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Drive | Amount of fuzz |
| Volume | Output level |
| Voicing | Octave / Low-End Boost / Both, set by an internal 3-way dip-switch |
Where it sits
As a fuzz, the Omicron belongs to the same family of effects covered on the Fuzz Pedals page, and its octave voicing touches on the territory of Octave & Pitch Pedals. Its SuperFuzz lineage places it among the classic two-knob fuzz designs, in a mini housing that suits crowded boards1.
