MG Music Midnight Rambler Overdrive

The Midnight Rambler Overdrive is an overdrive pedal from MG Music, a Brazilian company. Delicious Audio's Paolo De Gregorio describes it as a pedal that will "deliver a warm and balanced overdrive with vintage character"¹. It sits in the broad family of Overdrive Pedals, the low- to medium-gain dirt boxes players use to push an amp or add grit to a clean tone.

The pedal is framed as a tribute to the sound of The Rolling Stones, and more specifically their late '60s and early '70s tone¹. That places it among the many overdrives aimed at the bluesy, amp-driven sounds of that era, a territory also covered by pedals compared in Boss SD-1 vs Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer.

What it does

Two details set the Midnight Rambler apart from a straightforward one-knob-overdrive design:

• Circuit design: it borrows a sophisticated circuit used in high-end preamps, according to Delicious Audio's write-up¹.
• Second footswitch: a second footswitch adds extra gain, on demand, letting a player kick the pedal into a hotter setting mid-song without touching a knob¹.

That two-footswitch arrangement means the pedal can work as both a base overdrive and a boost-style lift from one box, which is worth knowing when planning a board that might otherwise carry a separate Boost Pedals unit¹.
