The ModTone Effects MT-SB Signal Booster is a boost pedal: it takes the signal coming from your guitar and raises its volume without changing its character. Pedal of the Day, which featured the pedal in March 2018, described it as boosting "totally clean and with zero distortion," which puts it in the clean-boost camp rather than the color-boost pedals that push an amp into breakup.12
What it does
The MT-SB has a single control, Level, which provides up to +25dB of volume boost. Pedal of the Day's reviewer summed up the practical use: "With up to +25dB of volume boost available via the Level control, you'll be sure to cut right through any mix."2
Because the boost is clean, the pedal sits alongside overdrive and distortion pedals rather than replacing them: it raises level, it does not add clipping of its own. The reviewer also noted it is not limited to electric use, saying it "will add a gorgeous boost of volume and tone to your acoustic as well," which makes it a candidate for players who run both kinds of guitar through the same board.2
Build and verdict
The pedal is built with all metal construction and high quality jacks and switches, and the reviewer noted it carries a super-affordable price tag.2
"the MT-SB Signal Booster is an all-around excellent addition to your setup"

Questions
Does the MT-SB Signal Booster add distortion to my tone?
No. Pedal of the Day's review describes the pedal as boosting the original signal totally clean and with zero distortion, so it raises volume without changing the character of your tone. That makes it a straightforward volume lift rather than an overdrive or distortion effect.
Can I use the MT-SB with an acoustic guitar?
Yes. The reviewer found it works well on electric guitars and also adds a boost of volume and tone to an acoustic, which can help an acoustic pickup cut through a mix or feed a front-of-house channel with a hotter signal.
