The Mooer Ensemble King is an analog chorus pedal for guitar, made by MOOER Audio. Mooer describes it as delivering a "pure analog chorus sound" in a "classic analog BB chorus" style, and highlights its very small and compact design1. It belongs to the wider family of chorus pedals, which thicken a guitar's sound with doubled, modulated voices.
Controls and design
The Ensemble King's control layout is unusual for a chorus. Guitar.com's Samuel Roberts described it in a 2019 chorus buying guide: "the Ensemble King features two tiny controls for Level and Depth hidden above a larger Rate control." Level sets the overall output, Depth sets how strong the chorus effect is, and Rate sets the speed of the modulation2.
The pedal's miniature enclosure is a defining feature. Guitar.com noted that "The Ensemble King comes in a format small enough to fit in your pocket, but due to its lush, warm analogue sounds its pr"2, pointing out that the small size does not come at the expense of the sound.
Price
Guitar.com's 2019 guide listed the Ensemble King at under £50 GBP, with the reviewer adding: "With all this coming in under £50, you'd be hard pressed to find a better chorus at this price point"2.
