The Mooer Micro Preamp 015 Brown Sound is a compact preamp pedal made by Mooer, part of the company's Micro Preamp series of mini pedals. Mooer introduced it in May 2018 alongside the Mooer Micro Preamp 014 Taxidea Taxus, with both models reported as available at a street price of $99 each at that time1.
What it does
The 015 Brown Sound sits in Mooer's Micro Preamp line, a series of small-format preamp pedals designed to put a preamp stage on a pedalboard. Across the series, the pedals offer dual channels with independent gain, volume and EQ parameters, a layout Guitar Interactive Magazine's Jonathan Graham described when covering earlier models in the range2, and which Guitar World likewise noted as the shared format of the Micro Preamp mini-pedals3. That two-channel arrangement means a player can set a cleaner and a dirtier voice on the same pedal and switch between them, with each channel keeping its own gain, volume and EQ settings.
As a preamp pedal, the 015 is intended to shape the front end of a guitar signal, the stage that sets how much drive and tonal character the signal carries before any power amplification or speaker simulation downstream.
Where it sits in the Mooer range
The Brown Sound name also appears elsewhere in Mooer's catalog: the company offers the larger-format Mooer PreAMP 005 Brown Sound 3, and the Micro Preamp series as a whole spans numbered models covering a range of amp voicings, from the 001 Gas Station through models such as the 008 Cali-MK 3, the 013 Match Box, the 016 Phoenix, the 017 Cali Mk IV and the 018 Custom 100.
The 015 Brown Sound was announced in May 2018 as part of a pair with the 014 Taxidea Taxus, and the $99 street price cited at launch dates from that announcement1.
