The NUX MG-101 is an NUX entry-level amp modeler and guitar effects processor, aimed at players who want amp tones and effects in one simple unit. NUX describes it as "an entry-level amp modeler and guitar effects processor that simplifies the art of sound crafting"1.
What it does
At its core, the MG-101 uses NUX's TSAC-HD (True Simulation of Analog Circuit, High-Definition) White Box Amp Modeling Technology. NUX says this captures the dynamic response and harmonic intricacies of analog amplifiers across both the amp models and the effects1.
For speaker simulation, the unit ships with 25 onboard IRs (impulse responses, which model how a speaker and cabinet sound). NUX says each one is designed to match the sonic characteristics of its amplifier counterpart, so pairing an amp model with its matching IR is the intended starting point1.
Tone shaping is handled through 5 output modes with a 3-band EQ for quick tweaks. One detail matters for how you use it: aside from STUDIO DIRECT, the other output modes disengage the IR signal by default. That makes STUDIO DIRECT the mode for plugging straight into an audio interface or headphones, while the other modes are aimed at setups where a real amp or cabinet is already doing the speaker work1.
The MG-101 sits at the entry level of NUX's MG series, below models like the NUX MG-100, NUX MG-300 and NUX MG-30 in the broader multi-effects range.
