The NUX Amp Academy Stomp is a digital amp modeling and multi-effects pedal: a compact unit that combines amp modeling, effects, impulse responses (IRs, speaker simulations you can load and swap) and a looper in one stompbox-sized enclosure. It holds 27 preset slots with three scenes each, plus independent left and right IR slots of 60 each, and it runs on 9V DC1. Guitar World listed it at $299 USD as of January 15, 20262.

Footswitches and the FS page

The three onboard footswitches do different jobs depending on the mode, and two of them double as shortcuts to setup pages1:

  • Hold footswitch C to open the FS page. From there, press A for PRESET, B for SCENE, or C for STOMP. The page exits automatically after 3 seconds of inactivity.
  • In PRESET mode, the switches read A (step down), B, and C (step up).
  • In SCENE mode, the switches select scenes 1 to 3.
  • In STOMP mode, the switches select stomps 1 to 3.
  • Hold footswitch B to open the LOOP page, where you set REC MODE (N.R. or A.R.), POSITION (PRE or POST) and LEVEL1.

External switches and expression control

The EXP/CTRL FS jack expands the pedal's control. With a dual footswitch such as the NUX NMP-2 or NMP-2 Lite connected via a TRS cable, you assign functions to RING (Switch A) and TIP (Switch B). Each switch can either step through presets using P UP / P DN, or toggle an effect block such as AMP or CMP. The pedal also accepts an external expression pedal, or an additional NMP-2 Lite footswitch in its place1.

Power and software

The pedal runs on 9V DC, center negative, and draws less than 500 mA1.

With a current draw of under 500 mA, the Amp Academy Stomp needs a power supply that can deliver that much current; a battery is not an option, and a shared daisy-chain output may fall short depending on what else is on it.

The pedal runs on firmware, and NUX lists V2.0.5, dated September 14, 2026, as the latest version1. Firmware updates change what the unit can do, so it is worth running the current version before relying on it at a gig or in the studio.

Questions

Can I connect an expression pedal to the Amp Academy Stomp?

Yes. The Amp Academy Stomp accepts an external expression pedal, or you can connect an additional NUX NMP-2 Lite footswitch instead. There is also a dedicated EXP/CTRL FS jack: with a dual footswitch such as the NUX NMP-2 or NMP-2 Lite connected by a TRS cable, you can assign separate functions to the RING (Switch A) and TIP (Switch B), including preset stepping or toggling an effect block such as AMP or CMP.

How many presets does the Amp Academy Stomp hold?

The Amp Academy Stomp holds 27 factory presets and 27 user presets, so 27 preset slots in total with three scenes in each. It also carries independent left and right IR slots, 60 on each side.

What power supply does the Amp Academy Stomp need?

The Amp Academy Stomp runs on 9V DC, center negative, and draws less than 500 mA. Because of that current draw, a standard low-current daisy-chain supply may not be enough; use a supply rated for the pedal's needs.

Does the Amp Academy Stomp have a looper?

Yes. Hold footswitch B to open the LOOP page, where you can set the REC MODE (N.R. or A.R.), the POSITION (PRE or POST) and the LEVEL of the loop.

Can the Amp Academy Stomp load third-party IRs?

The pedal carries independent left and right IR slots, 60 on each side, and firmware V2.0.5, released September 14, 2026, added NAM loading along with six DeepImage models and other workflow additions.
