The OFX Purple Ohm Fuzz is a fuzz pedal from OFX, shorthand for Oliver FX, Richard Oliver's project and a new British pedal brand. Guitar Pedal X describes it as a "hybrid-voiced Ram's Head x Sovtek Big Muff style Purple Ohm Fuzz", meaning it draws on two distinct eras of the Big Muff fuzz circuit rather than copying one version outright. It launched on 7 July 2026 and was, at that date, available for order on the OFX Webstore, priced at £1851.
Where it came from
Richard Oliver designed the pedal, and Guitar Pedal X reports that "with some help from Brian managed to finalised the circuit that became the Purple Ohm Fuzz", the Brian in question being Brian Wampler of Wampler Pedals. The build itself is handled by ThorpyFX, which Guitar Pedal X confirmed manufactured these pedals for the new brand1.
Controls
The pedal's Tone control works in reverse to most fuzz tone stacks. Guitar Pedal X lists it as "Tone : Highs > Lows", a reverse pot with treble accentuation counter-clockwise and mids and lows accentuation clockwise1.
The Tone knob is a reverse pot: counter-clockwise brings out treble, clockwise brings out mids and lows. Players used to a conventional tone sweep will find the direction flipped.
What reviewers said
Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson wrote the launch coverage and gave a favourable read of the pedal's presentation and sound:
"Other than that that it’s a very decent looking and sounding pedal - with absolutely the right knob choices, and a kind of whimsical artwork - good colourway too."1
