The Black Bobbin Boost is a dual clean boost pedal from Old Blood Noise Endeavors, conceived by Shelby Pollard of Black Bobbin and designed by Old Blood Noise Endeavors1. Premier Guitar described it at announcement as a dual transparent boost2. It carries two separate boost circuits, Bump and Boost, each with its own footswitch and its own input and output, so the two can be split across a board rather than stacked in one spot12.

The maker's product page listed the pedal as Sold Out as of 25 October 20261.

Two boosts in one pedal

The idea is simple: two boosts, kept separate. Independent footswitches handle Boost and Bump1, and with independent routing each boost can be placed anywhere in the signal chain. The maker adds that together the two make "a pretty nice ov"1, an overdrive-style combination when run into each other. Premier Guitar's announcement put the same point another way: "two circuits with independent ins and outs to allow for placement anywhere in the signal path"2.

That routing matters for how players actually use it. Premier Guitar reported that the Bump side "is designed as an always-on mid-range bump with high headroom to be placed first in the signal chain"2, which suits a player who wants a constant mid and high lift under everything else, with the Boost side placed later, for example after drive pedals, as a solo volume push.

The Bump circuit

Old Blood Noise Endeavors describes Bump as "extraordinarily clean with a pleasing mid and high push inspired by a mythical overdrive"1. Its controls are minimal:

  • Output: controls volume of the Bump circuit1
  • Internal trimpot: sets the voice of the Bump circuit1

There is no external tone knob on this side; the voicing is set inside the pedal with the trimpot, so it is a set-and-forget voice rather than an adjustable EQ1.

The Boost circuit

Boost is the more adjustable of the two. The maker describes it as "a warmer transistor-based design with the ability to get overdriven"1, and Premier Guitar noted its three controls "to allow for optimal EQing"2:

ControlWhat it does
OutputControls volume of the Boost circuit1
GainSets input gain of the Boost circuit, with potential for light overdrive at maximum1
ToneTilt EQ: below noon lows are boosted and highs are cut, above noon lows are cut and highs are boosted1

The Gain control is what separates this side from a straight volume boost: at maximum it can push into light overdrive, which puts the pedal in territory shared with dedicated overdrive pedals as well as boost pedals1.

Switching

Both circuits switch with soft-touch bypass footswitches, which the maker specifies give true bypass and minimal switch noise1. Premier Guitar's announcement likewise lists true bypass switching2.

Questions

Is the Black Bobbin Boost true bypass?

Yes. Old Blood Noise Endeavors specifies soft-touch bypass footswitches for true bypass with minimal switch noise, and Premier Guitar's announcement also lists true bypass switching. Each of the two circuits has its own footswitch, so either side can be switched in or out on its own.

Can the Bump and Boost be placed at different points in the signal chain?

Yes. The pedal has independent routing, with each circuit carrying its own input and output, so each boost can be placed anywhere in the signal chain. Premier Guitar notes the Bump side is designed as an always-on mid-range bump with high headroom, intended to be placed first in the signal chain.

What is the difference between the Bump and Boost circuits?

Bump is described by the maker as extraordinarily clean, with a pleasing mid and high push inspired by a mythical overdrive, and it is voiced by an internal trimpot rather than an external tone knob. Boost is a warmer transistor-based design with the ability to get overdriven, and it adds a tilt EQ tone control and a gain control.

Does the Bump circuit have a tone control?

Not on the front panel. The Bump side has an Output control for volume, and its voice is set by an internal trimpot. The Boost side is the one with the external Tone control, a tilt EQ where below noon lows are boosted and highs are cut, and above noon the reverse.

Can the Boost circuit overdrive?

Yes, lightly. Old Blood Noise Endeavors describes Boost as a warmer transistor-based design with the ability to get overdriven, and its Gain control sets the input gain with the potential for light overdrive at maximum.

What colors does the Black Bobbin Boost come in?

The maker's product page lists two colorways, White and Black.
