Old Blood Noise Procession

The Old Blood Noise Endeavors Procession is an atmospheric modulated reverb pedal from Old Blood Noise Endeavors. The maker describes it as "an atmospheric modulated reverb, blending otherworldly echoes with tremolo, flanger, and moving filter," so rather than a straight room or hall, it puts movement through the reverb itself¹. Delicious Audio's take on it was that it "offers some sounds that come straight out of outer space, not your typical reverb overall sound"².

What it does to your sound

The Procession combines a reverb with three modulation settings: Flange, Filter and Tremolo⁴. Delicious Audio described it as "a strange mix of haunting reverb and three modulation settings, the Procession aims at inspiring something new, something fringe and something risky"². Pedal of the Day, reviewing the Procession Sci-Fi Reverb V2, found that "the Procession's simple controls run the gamut of reverb soundscapes ranging from simple reverb to complex Sci-Fi filter-y echo weirdness," so it covers plain reverb duty as well as the more experimental end⁵.

A separate Hold switch is a momentary footswitch that, when pressed, locks in whatever note is being played through the reverb effect⁴. That lets a player sustain a chord or note under the reverb while playing over it.

Old Blood Noise's own copy sets the tone for the pedal. As quoted by JHS Pedals: "Out of the hazy, sand-blown distance, something comes forth. Moving slowly, moving softly, it is seen and just as quickly lost. It echoes in the open air, a voice on the wind. It's a Procession. A cavalcade making its way through the deserts of a distant planet. The sounds of another world."⁶

Controls

Versions and expression control

The V2 of the pedal added an expression out jack and clickless switching, according to Delicious Audio². On the current product page, the maker lists an expression jack for external control of the Speed or Reverb knob, with the choice made via an internal switch¹. Players using an expression pedal with the Procession can therefore sweep reverb trail length or modulation speed in real time; the site's Expression Pedals page covers how expression control works generally.

JHS Pedals' history of the maker notes that "the Procession was inspired by the idea of long-sustaining held reverbs," which lines up with the Hold switch and the long trails the Reverb knob sets³.

Where it sits among Old Blood Noise reverbs

The Procession is one of several reverb pedals in the Old Blood Noise Endeavors range. Others the maker has produced include the Dark Star, the Dark Star Stereo, the Sunlight Dynamic Reverb, the Screen Violence and the BL-37 Reverb. For more on the category, see the site's Reverb Pedals page².
