The Peace Hill FX ODS is a D-Style tube preamp pedal: a high-end, handbuilt pedal recreation of the Dumble Overdrive Special amplifier. It is made in Japan and carries two real tubes inside it, so it aims to put the preamp section of that amplifier on a pedalboard rather than in a rack or a combo1. Players looking at other tube-driven preamps in the same family can compare it with the Peace Hill FX SSS and the Peace Hill FX TRJM Tube Preamp, or browse the wider field of preamp pedals.
What it does
Because the ODS is built around the Dumble Overdrive Special circuit, its controls follow the features players associate with that amplifier. Delicious Audio's write-up notes that it includes the Bright, Deep, and Rock/Jazz switches, with the Bright switch described as one of the ODS's most common Dumble features1.
The Ratio control shapes the overdrive character. According to Vintage Guitar, the Ratio knob "controls how much overdrive is fed back into the circuit," delivering a more aggressive tone1.
Price and availability
Delicious Audio featured the pedal in August 2024, presenting it as a new way for Dumble amplifier fans to get that sound at a fraction of the cost of the original amplifier, "although still a steep $790 USD!"1. The pedal is handbuilt, which accounts for both the price and the limited availability typical of that kind of construction1.
