The Pepers Pedals MAGE CLVIII is an analog distortion pedal built for heavy playing. RockBoard's PedalPedia describes it as "the distortion channel from everyone's favourite shitty 90's practice amp engineered into a pedal," and recommends it for "Punk, Metal, Doom, Black Metal, Dbeat, Grind, Crust, Thrash or whatever you want to play."1

What it does

The MAGE CLVIII takes its character from the distortion channel of a 1990s practice amp, packaged as a pedal. Pepers Pedals positions it squarely at aggressive styles, from punk and thrash through doom, black metal, grind and crust.1

Beyond its use as a standard distortion on the front of an amp, the pedal has a second role: an internal trimmer can be adjusted to 158%, letting the MAGE CLVIII act as a preamp connected straight into an amplifier's effects loop or a power amp. That makes it an option for players who want the pedal to supply the whole preamp stage rather than push an amp's own distortion channel.1

If you are comparing it with other heavy dirt boxes, see the site's pages on Distortion Pedals, Fuzz Pedals and Preamp Pedals, or other Pepers Pedals designs such as the Humongous Distortion and the Wendigo.
