The Skipping Stone Delay V2 is a delay pedal from Poison Noises that puts eight different delay effects into a single, easy-to-use box. Pedal of the Day reviewed it on its release in September 2022, one of a run of refreshed V2 pedals from the maker that year, and described it as offering "a wide array of echo options, conjuring up classic sounds and exploring new sonic pathways as well"1.
What it does
The eight modes cover a broad spread of delay sounds. Pedal of the Day lists them as running "from simple slapbacks and quarter note delays, to dual delays and oil cans"1, so the pedal reaches from short, subtle echoes to more unusual character delays without changing units.
Three controls work the same way no matter which mode you are in: Mix, Rate and Feedback. Mix sets how much delayed signal you hear against your dry sound, Rate sets the delay time, and Feedback sets how many repeats you get1.
The Splash knob
The fourth control, Splash, changes its job depending on the selected mode. Pedal of the Day explains that "the Splash knob controls things like 2nd Delay Rate, Trem/Chorus/Phaser Speed, Octave Up/Down and Ring Mod Frequency"1. In practice that means Splash reaches into the mode itself, adjusting a second delay line or the speed of a built-in modulation effect, or the pitch and ring modulation character, depending on what the current mode is built around.
What changed in V2
The V2 adds a volume control that Pedal of the Day says lets you "push this pedal to the next level"1, giving you a level stage after the delay circuit that the original did not have.
