The Providence Stampede DT SDT-3 is a distortion pedal in the Japanese maker's Stampede line. Providence describes the result as "hard-hitting distortion with a big low end that is similar to what you'd expect from a large amp stack", placing it as a pedal aimed at players who want amp-stack weight from a compact distortion box1.
What it does
The SDT-3 carries four controls: GAIN, OUTPUT, TREBLE and BASS. That gives a player gain staging and level on one side, and two bands of EQ to shape the low end and top of the distortion voice, rather than a single tone knob1.
Power supply circuit
A distinguishing feature is internal. The STAMPEDE DT SDT-3 is equipped with the low-noise up-converter power supply circuit adopted in the Stampede OD/SOV-2, which boosts the internal operating voltage from DC9V. Higher internal operating voltage is a common way designers give a pedal more headroom, and Providence presents it here as part of how the pedal keeps its low end intact1.
Bypass and build
Rather than a conventional bypass arrangement, the STAMPEDE DT's circuit employs a Single Contact True-Bypass circuit, where the signal passes through only one switch circuit when bypassed. For a player, that means fewer contacts in the signal path when the pedal is off1.
The pedal measures 115(D) × 73(W) × 50(H) mm, a compact enclosure in line with the rest of the Stampede range1.
Providence also makes a related model, the Stampede DT SDT-2, alongside other Stampede and Heat Blaster drives such as the Heat Blaster HBL-4 and the FDR-1 Flame Drive.
