The SalemFuzz Pink Beard is a fuzz pedal from Pure Salem Guitars, listed at USD $2251. It is a limited run: the company stated in August 2016 that only 25 units of each pedal would be produced, rather than 250 per year as originally planned1. It sits alongside the SalemFuzz Honey Bunny and the SalemFuzz Attack Captain in the SalemFuzz range1.
A limited run, twice corrected
When the SalemFuzz pedals were announced in February 2016, they were presented as a limited run of 250 pedals, priced at USD $225 each1. On 15 August 2016, PureSalem's Rick Sell corrected the figure: only 25 pedals of each model were being produced, not 250 per year1. That makes the Pink Beard a small-batch pedal by any measure, and one that was positioned from the start as a future collectable1.
"The first three pedals for 2016 are based on different styles of fuzz"
What it does
Pure Salem describes the Pink Beard as a high gain transistor fuzz1. Fuzz pedals clip the guitar signal hard using transistors, and a high gain design of this kind is aimed at players after a thick, saturated fuzz voice rather than a light grit. The company framed the 2016 range around "all your psychedelic warrior needs", with the three pedals covering different styles of fuzz1.
