The Redemption Labs Md4b is a MIDI controller and switcher built by Redemption Labs. It is a handmade unit with four footswitches, made to send preset changes and ControlChange messages to MIDI-equipped pedals and computer software, so a player can switch sounds on a modeler or a board of MIDI pedals without reaching down to touch them.1

What it does

The Md4b can address up to 128 presets, and according to the maker it "works with most MIDI pedals and DAWs on the market to change presets, ControlChange". In practice that means each of the four switches can be set to call up a preset or send a ControlChange message on a connected device, covering both whole-sound changes and single-parameter or effect on/off commands.1

RockBoard's PedalPedia lists compatible devices "such as Line6, Strymon, Eventide, HX Stomp, AX8 and others", so it is aimed at players running modelers and multi-effects units, as well as MIDI-capable individual pedals.1

Power and setup

The Md4b runs on 9V DC, center negative, the same polarity as a standard pedal power supply.1
