Sentimental Bob Electronics Echo Delay

The Sentimental Bob Electronics Echo Delay is a delay pedal from Sentimental Bob Electronics. It belongs to the wider family of delay pedals, which repeat a note or phrase after the player, from a quick slapback to long, drawn-out trails¹.

What it does

Delicious Audio, the effects site run by Paolo De Gregorio, covered the Echo Delay in August 2017 and noted that it stood out within the builder's range:

Paolo De Gregorio, Delicious Audio¹

That attention came with video coverage. Delicious Audio pointed players to a demo by the Shnobel channel, and to a second video in which the Echo Delay was compared directly against the Electro-Harmonix Memory Man, a well-known analog delay. A shootout against a Memory Man is a telling choice of comparison, since it places the Echo Delay in the company of one of the most established names in delay design¹.

The demo signal chain

The Shnobel demo ran the pedal through a straightforward rock rig, which shows how the pedal was presented in practice¹:

1. Fender Telecaster¹
2. Buffalo Fx Carrera Overdrive¹
3. Sentimental Bob Electronics Echo Delay¹
4. Marshall JMP 100w Super Lead¹

That chain puts the Echo Delay after an overdrive and into a non-master-volume style head, a common way players use a delay on a board aimed at classic rock tones¹.

Where it sits among other delays

Players comparing the Echo Delay with other compact delays will find a crowded field. The Electro-Harmonix #1 Echo was a digital delay, now discontinued as of 2024². The Electro-Harmonix Pico Canyon Echo sets its delay time from 8ms to 3s with a single DELAY knob³. The Rowin ECHO is built on the common PT2399 delay chip⁴, and the Catalinbread Belle Epoch Tape Echo takes a different route entirely, with an Echo Delay knob covering about 80ms to 800ms and designed to be worked in real time⁵. Against these, the Echo Delay's appeal, as Delicious Audio framed it, lay in the interest it drew from players and reviewers rather than in a long published specification sheet¹.
