Seward Park Electric Maravilla-Germanium Preamp/Boost

The Seward Park Electric Maravilla-Germanium Preamp/Boost is an analog preamp and boost pedal from Seward Park Electric¹. It is built around a Russian NOS germanium transistor, the kind of old-stock component that gives the pedal its character, and it is designed to take a player from clean to subtle breakup to full-on distortion¹. Players looking at boost pedals or preamp pedals will find it sits in both camps.

What it does

As a preamp, the Maravilla-Germanium raises the signal to ample output, which RockBoard's PedalPedia says is enough to hit the front of your tube amp, and it is described as working well alongside other pedals². The germanium transistor is central to the design: RockBoard's PedalPedia says pushing it produces rich, musical overdrive, running from clean to subtle breakup to full-on distortion². That range means the same pedal can act as a clean boost into an amp, a touch of breakup, or a distortion-style drive, putting it in territory shared by overdrive pedals and distortion pedals.

Controls

The pedal's tone shaping comes from its LOUD controls, which the maker describes as interactive with each other²:

In practice, interactive controls mean the settings influence one another rather than each doing one fixed job, so the same pedal can be dialed toward warm vintage grit, lofi textures, or a brighter jangly response depending on how the controls are set against each other².
