The Solar Ola Englund Chug Lite is a high gain distortion pedal carrying the signature of Ola Englund, and it is the smaller sibling of the Solar Guitars Ola Englund Signature Chug, whose ten controls earned it the nickname "the 10-controls bigger brother" from Guitar Pedal X1. Guitar Pedal X listed the Chug Lite at $1291.
Controls
The Chug Lite carries six controls, a deliberately trimmed set compared with the ten-control original Chug. The Mid Frequency control lets the player choose where the middle knob acts, a common high gain feature for dialing the pedal into a particular amp or pickup set1.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Gain | Sets the amount of distortion1 |
| Bass | Low EQ1 |
| Middle ± | Mid EQ, cut or boost1 |
| Mid Frequency | Sets the center frequency the Middle control acts on1 |
| Treble | High EQ1 |
| Output | Overall level1 |
What reviewers said
Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson, covering the pedal in the 2025 Full Metal Racket selection, came down firmly on the side of the smaller version1:
"I find the Chug Lite every way superior to its 10-controls bigger brother."
He described its output and delivery as huge1. At the end of 2025, the Chug Lite also picked up a BRONZE award in Guitar Pedal X's roundup of the year's best new distortion pedals, sharing the bronze tier with the Muir Audio Silicon Steel Distortion3.
How it compares
The original Solar Chug was an Ola Englund signature high gain design with ten controls; the Chug Lite condenses that into six knobs aimed at players who want the core high gain voicing without the deeper editing. Both sit in the compact high gain distortion field that Guitar Pedal X tracks in its annual Full Metal Racket selections1.
