The Sonuus Voluum is a treadle-based volume pedal that doubles as an analog multi-effect. A new release from Sonuus, it puts a volume pedal, noise gate, compressor, LFO (tremolo) and limiter in one stompbox, and Sonuus says those effects can be used simultaneously1. Under the hood it is a digitally-controlled high-fidelity pure-analog signal path for guitar and bass1.
What it does
The Voluum takes the traditional treadle volume pedal and builds effects around it. The effects on board are a noise gate, compressor, LFO (tremolo), volume and limiter, and Sonuus states they can be used simultaneously1. The treadle's feel can be tuned: Sonuus says you can optimize the feel of the pedal using one of 28 response curves1.
On the analog side, Sonuus points to constant high-voltage analog power rails to ensure high headroom with low distortion and low noise for maximum signal clarity1.
No potentiometers, no scratchy pots
The pedal's treadle does not read position the way a conventional volume pedal does. Sonuus uses patent-pending pedal sensing technology that avoids potentiometers and optical sensors, and the company promises that because of this the controls will never get "scratchy" or wear out4. For players used to replacing a worn pot in an older volume pedal, that is the headline difference in how the Voluum is built.
MIDI, USB and presets
The Voluum carries MIDI and USB connectivity and stores 100 user presets1. The USB connection also makes it easy to upgrade the pedal's internal software4. On the sync front, Molten Voltage's list of devices found to sync to MIDI Clock, dated October 7, 2014, includes the Voluum3.
The pedal is built into a sturdy, lightweight aluminum chassis, which Sonuus pairs with a modern robust electronic design1. Settings are handled through a minimal control layout and LED display2.
What reviewers said
MusicRadar's review, by Michael Astley-Brown, summed the pedal up this way:
"Stupefying tonal potential. Good manual. Full of (pleasant) surprises. Rock solid build."
The same review noted that 15 minutes with the well-written manual explained all2. More recently, Stefan Karlsson at Guitar Pedal X, writing in January 2026, named the Voluum as the only other truly expansive volume pedal that came to mind alongside the Walrus Audio Canvas Volume, calling it a favorite of his friend5.
Related to the Sonuus Wahoo
The Voluum follows the same approach Sonuus took with the Wahoo, its dual analog filter stompbox1. As MusicRadar put it when announcing the Voluum, similar to the Wahoo, it takes a traditional treadle-based stompbox, in this case a volume pedal, and integrates it with digital control1. The Wahoo shares the same sturdy, lightweight aluminum chassis6, an ultra-bright display that is readable outdoors but can also be dimmed when required7, and is classed as a Wah/Filter type pedal by Performer Magazine8.
