The SoundLad Liverpool Scran 2 is a dual-voiced overdrive spanning the Britpop and Indie Sleaze eras, designed by Marc, who the maker says has spent hundreds of man-hours perfecting the circuit. It comes in two editions, Cool Britannia and Indie Sleaze, both listed at £129 on the SoundLad Liverpool webstore1.
Inside the circuit
The Scran 2's signal path is built around a substantial feature set. Guitar Pedal X's reviewer, Stefan Karlsson, describes it as including input and output buffers and power filtering, on top of two transformers, a discrete Screamer circuit, a custom inductor EQ, a pickup simulator, an SC/HB switch and an Omega (Ω) trimmer1.
The headline addition over the original Scran is a discrete Tube Screamer circuit that powers the pedal's '00' mode, developed around Albert Hammond Jr.'s tones on 'Is This It'. The pedal also uses J201 and J202 JFETs, which Marc calls "a big part of the circuit's evolution"1. Controls and voicings
The mode switch is the heart of the pedal: up is '00' Indie Sleaze, down is '90' Britpop. The '00' Indie Sleaze voicing adds more mids and sizzle via the Screamer stage1. Of the controls carried over from the original Scran, only Thick survives, and it controls the bass input into the circuit, letting players set how much low end gets through1.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Mode switch | Up: '00' Indie Sleaze; down: '90' Britpop1 |
| Thick | Controls the bass input into the circuit1 |
The two editions
There are two versions of the Scran 2: one that harks back to Cool Britannia, and one that is more informed by the Indie Sleaze era. Both share the same dual-voiced circuit and both were priced at £1291.
What reviewers said
Guitar Pedal X's review is the published verdict on record. Karlsson found the pedal very easy to navigate, sounding superb in many different ways and contexts, with what he describes as a wide range of output overall1.

Questions
What is the difference between the Cool Britannia and Indie Sleaze editions?
There are two versions of the Scran 2: one that harks back to Cool Britannia and one that is more informed by the Indie Sleaze era. Both carry the same dual-voiced circuit with '90' Britpop and '00' Indie Sleaze modes, and both were listed at £129 on the SoundLad Liverpool webstore as of June 2025.
What does the SC/HB switch on the Scran 2 do?
The Scran 2's circuit includes an SC/HB switch alongside an Omega trimmer, part of a feature set that also takes in two transformers, input and output buffers, power filtering, a custom inductor EQ and a pickup simulator. Guitar Pedal X's review lists the switch as one of the building blocks of the circuit.
Does the Scran 2 work with bass?
The Thick control, the only control carried over from the original Scran, governs the bass input into the circuit, so players can shape how much low end the pedal keeps. Guitar Pedal X's reviewer described the pedal as having a wide range of output overall.
What changed from the original Scran?
The original Scran, aimed at Britpop tones, first emerged in 2021. The Scran 2 adds a discrete Tube Screamer circuit for its '00' Indie Sleaze mode, developed during 2024 around Albert Hammond Jr.'s 'Is This It' tones, and uses J201 and J202 JFETs, which Guitar Pedal X calls a big part of the circuit's evolution.
