The Spaceman Meridian is an all-analog modulation pedal built around a 1024-stage bucket brigade delay line using the MN3007 chip12. Rather than being a single-effect box, it uses one short delay circuit, with a delay time range of 0.8ms to 50ms, to produce a whole family of time-based effects: Spaceman lists chorus, flanger, vibrato, double-tracker, rotary speaker emulation, phasing and comb filtering among its modes12. Delicious Audio called it Spaceman's most flexible and sophisticated modulation effect to date2.

The pedal is hand-wired and built in Portland, Oregon, in a cast-aluminum enclosure with an engraved vinyl faceplate and a jewel indicator light12. As of October 2026 it is listed as sold out on the maker's product page1.

How it works

The Meridian is a short-delay circuit, and nearly every modulation effect it makes comes from how that delay is swept. A bucket brigade chip stores the signal briefly and hands it along in stages; the MN3007 here gives 1024 of them, with a delay time set by the TIME control between 0.8ms and 50ms2. At short delay times with the LFO sweeping the line you get flanging and comb filtering; longer times give chorus, vibrato and double-tracking24. Delicious Audio notes that within that range the pedal can produce classic chorus tones, true pitch-shifting vibrato, wispy phasing, throbbing Leslie sounds, shimmering flange, and static comb filtering or double-tracking2.

The signal path around the delay chip is treated to keep it quiet: pre-emphasis and de-emphasis, companding, and refined anti-aliasing and reconstruction filters4. Spaceman also describes the design as ultra-low-noise overall1.

The controls

The Meridian carries an internal switch1.

ControlWhat it does
LEVELSets the desired output volume1
TIMESets the delay time within the 0.8ms to 50ms range2
RATESets the LFO speed, from 0.12Hz (8 seconds) to 15Hz (65ms)2
WIDTHSets the LFO depth; at minimum the LFO stops entirely1
REGENAdds negative feedback around the delay line for depth and dimension1
MIXSweeps from full dry to full wet, controlling effect intensity2

The REGEN control deserves a note of its own. Spaceman says it is essential when creating flanger and phaser sounds, and that it also produces the metallic clank of comb filtering at short delay times and a drippy rhythmic grind at longer delay times1.

A useful trick built into the WIDTH control: turn it to minimum and the LFO stops, at which point you can sweep the delay line directly with the RATE and TIME controls. Pedal of the Day describes this as opening up static comb filtering, double-tracking and pseudo slapback sounds, effectively turning the pedal into a manually swept delay14.

LFO waveshapes

The LFO offers three waveshapes2:

  • Sine: a smooth, rounded sweep.
  • Triangle: the de facto standard for chorus and flanger sounds, as Pedal of the Day puts it4.
  • Flux: a wobbly, uneven derivation of the triangle wave with unpredictable skips and jumps1.

Spaceman describes the Flux wave in its own words:

"The Flux wave is a wobbly, uneven derivation of the triangle wave with unpredictable skips and jumps."1

Delicious Audio adds that when used subtly, Flux imparts a slithering, alive feeling to the modulation2.

Expression and CV control

The EXP jack accepts both expression pedals and control voltage, and an internal slide switch selects whether the jack controls the RATE or the WIDTH parameter124. That choice matters: pointing it at RATE lets you sweep modulation speed in real time, while pointing it at WIDTH lets you fade the depth of the effect in and out, from no modulation at all to full sweep.

What reviewers said

Premier Guitar reviewed the Meridian in September 2023 and found it rewards an exploratory approach3:

"The modulation textures here are rich and often unusual, bypassing same-old modulation templates and presets and inviting" an exploratory, interactive approach.3

The same review noted that Spaceman Effects has always maintained high standards for construction quality, inside and out3. Pedal of the Day was equally positive in June 2023, writing that the Meridian blends aspects of chorus, vibrato, flanger, filter, pitch-shifting and more into one pedal, and that the reviewer had never come across a pedal from Spaceman Effects they did not completely love4.
