The Spicy Pedals Modulatron Overloaded Chorus/Vibrato & Overdrive is a chorus/vibrato pedal with an overdrive channel built into the clean path. It is a variant of Spicy Pedals' original Modulatron, which was already a dual-LFO chorus/vibrato; the Overloaded version adds a drive circuit to that design1. The pedal comes in an orange enclosure1.

How the overdrive and modulation work together

The Overloaded gives you a choice of where the drive sits in the signal. Pedal of the Day describes the two arrangements: "Run your signal into the overdrive and modulate it after…or modulate the clean tone and kick in the Overload." It can also run like a traditional chorus/vibrato, with the modulation doing the work on its own1.

The overdrive changes the character of the clean path. In the reviewer's words: "The clean path is no longer clean, it's juicy, gainy, and ready to grind."1

The original Modulatron was already a dual-LFO chorus/vibrato; the Overloaded version is that pedal with an overdrive circuit added to the clean channel1.

Controls

The pedal carries seven knobs. Pedal of the Day suggests that flipping the blend or cranking the Overload knob takes the pedal into less familiar ground: "flip the blend or crank the Overload knob, and you're in uncharted territory"1.

What reviewers said

Pedal of the Day reviewed the pedal on August 9, 2025, and summed it up as "a beast like no other, a unique blend of two classic effects that pair perfectly with one another. There are a ton of intriguing sounds and tones," calling it a knob-turner's dream overall1.

Questions

What is the difference between the Modulatron and the Modulatron Overloaded?

The Modulatron Overloaded is Spicy Pedals' original Modulatron with an overdrive circuit added to the clean channel. The original was already a dual-LFO chorus/vibrato; the Overloaded version keeps that modulation design and puts a gain stage in the clean path, so the clean side can go from clean to juicy and gainy depending on how far you push the Overload knob.

Can the Modulatron Overloaded put the overdrive before the modulation?

Yes. Pedal of the Day describes two signal paths: you can run your signal into the overdrive and modulate it after, or modulate the clean tone and kick in the Overload. It can also run like a traditional chorus/vibrato with the drive out of the picture.

Where is the Spicy Pedals Modulatron Overloaded made?

Spicy Pedals builds the Modulatron Overloaded by hand in Dallas, Texas. Pedal of the Day notes that it is handmade and handwired there and tested by humans.

How many LFOs does the Modulatron Overloaded have?

The Modulatron Overloaded has dual LFOs, a feature carried over from the original Modulatron chorus/vibrato that Spicy Pedals built the Overloaded version from.

Where can I buy the Spicy Pedals Modulatron Overloaded?

As of the August 2025 review, the pedal was available for ordering through the Spicy Pedals website, which lists it on its Modulatron Overloaded product page.
