Stomp Under Foot '72 Tri Muff v6 Fuzz

The '72 Tri Muff v6 Fuzz is a fuzz pedal from Stomp Under Foot, a Florida based manufacturer, and it is a recreation of Version 6 of the Triangle Big Muff, the early 1970s circuit that muff-style fuzz fans prize. It sits in the builder's range alongside other Big Muff inspired pedals such as the Ram's Head, the Green Russian and the Op-Amp Fuzz.¹

What it does

As a muff-style fuzz, the pedal delivers the thick, sustaining distortion the Big Muff family is known for, here modeled on the Triangle version of the circuit. Delicious Audio's Paolo De Gregorio and Just Nick described the pedal as "a sweet take on the 'Triangle' Big Muff" and summed up its sound as "Massive heft, plenty of clarity. Works amazingly well as an OD too!" In their view it is a "Spectacular version of the cult favorite muff-style fuzz."¹

The reviewer's note that it works well as an overdrive points to a use beyond full-on fuzz: with the gain backed off, the circuit can be pushed into lower-gain territory, which is a common way players run Triangle-style muffs. For more on the family, see the site's Fuzz Pedals page, and for a related take on the same lineage, Stomp Under Foot's Tri-Dirty Booster also draws on the Triangle era.
