The Figure Filter Fuzz is a fuzz pedal with two active filters, made by Stonegate FX, a builder based in Toronto. The fuzz circuit itself is described by Delicious Audio as rich and expressive, woolly and saturated, but the feature that sets the pedal apart is the pair of parametric filters sitting around it: one covering the upper mids and one covering the highs. As Delicious Audio put it, "Most fuzz pedals hand you a wall of noise and say 'good luck.' This one lets you carve it."1

The two filters

Both filters are active rather than passive, which means they can boost as well as cut. Each has its own Cut/Boost knob with a center detent, so you can scoop or push those frequencies with precision1. Guitar Pedal X describes the same arrangement as ± Cut/Boost for each of the frequency filters2.

FilterFrequency rangeWhat it shapes
Upper Mids1kHz to 4kHzThe body and bite of the fuzz2
Highs9kHz to 14kHzAir frequencies and top-end sparkle1

Inside the pedal, trimpots adjust the Q width of each filter: clockwise narrows the focus, counterclockwise widens it1. That lets you decide whether a filter carves a narrow notch or a broad swath of the spectrum.

Circuit and placement

Guitar Pedal X describes the gain generation as a mix of opamp and transistor, with just a single visible transistor in the circuit2. The pedal also includes a pickup simulator, which Guitar Pedal X notes can be placed anywhere in the pedal chain2.

Power and bypass

The pedal runs on 9V DC center negative and draws 50mA, with a Lumberg power jack2. It is true bypass, and its jacks are top-mounted1.

At 50mA, the pedal draws more current than many simple fuzzes. Check your power supply's per-output budget before sharing an output with other pedals.

Price

The two published prices differ: Delicious Audio reported $199 CAD when the pedal was announced on June 25, 20261, and Guitar Pedal X listed MAP/RRP at $295 CAD / $212 USD on June 30, 20262.

What reviewers said

Delicious Audio's Paolo De Gregorio framed the pedal as a way to shape a fuzz rather than simply stack gain: the dual active filters are what separate it from the pile of shaping tools and filters on other fuzzes, in his view1. Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson, writing under the headline of Stonegate FX unleashing a potent twin-filter fuzz, detailed the surface controls, the internal trimpots and the circuit's opamp-plus-transistor makeup2.

Questions

Is the Stonegate FX The Figure Filter Fuzz true bypass?

Yes. Delicious Audio's product page lists the pedal as true bypass, so your guitar signal passes through untouched when the effect is off. The pedal also has top-mounted jacks, which helps it fit on crowded pedalboards.

What power does The Figure Filter Fuzz need?

Guitar Pedal X lists the pedal at 9V DC center negative, drawing 50mA, with a Lumberg power jack. That current draw is higher than many simple fuzzes, so it is worth checking what your power supply offers on each output before adding it to a daisy chain.

What frequencies do the two filters cover?

The Upper Mids filter sweeps from 1kHz to 4kHz, and the Highs filter sweeps from 9kHz to 14kHz. Delicious Audio describes the high filter's range as air frequencies and top-end sparkle, the part of the spectrum that keeps a fuzz from sounding muffled.

Can the filters boost as well as cut?

Yes. Both filters are active rather than passive, which means each Cut/Boost knob can push a frequency band up as well as scoop it down. Each knob has a center detent at its neutral point, so you can dial in cuts or boosts with precision.

What do the internal trimpots do on The Figure Filter Fuzz?

Inside the pedal, trimpots adjust the Q width of each filter, meaning how narrow or broad a band the filter affects. Turning a trimpot clockwise narrows the focus onto a tighter slice of frequencies, and counterclockwise widens it.
