The Summer School Electronics Gus-Plus Bass Overdrive is a bass overdrive pedal, built as a bass-friendly version of the company's Gus-Drive Overdrive. Pedal of the Day describes it as providing "all the presence and saturation of an overdriven tone, but without losing the lower" frequencies, beefing up low frequencies while keeping punch and clarity1. It sits among the overdrive pedals players commonly pair with bass pedals.
What it does
The pedal adds overdrive to a bass signal while keeping the low end intact. Pedal of the Day's reviewer found that "everything stays tight and clear, while providing a gorgeous drive tone that doesn't overpower or alter your tone consid[erably] overall tone"1.
The Blend knob is the control that sets it apart from the guitar-oriented original. Turned all the way down, the Gus-Plus functions like a standard Gus-Drive overdrive pedal, allowing a volume boost to an array of overdriven tones; blending it in brings the bass-friendly character into play1.
"Hand-built in Syracuse, NY, the Gus-Plus expands on an already creative circuit, really pushing your low end playing to..."
